even now,
i fall for you
the way
to the
hesitant fearful flicker
always know
when to catch.

my butterflies,
ancient, decrepit things
still flutter for you
do a weird somersault dance
when you do that staccato laugh
you do
during tickle fight 78.
you cannot beat me.
stop trying.

very good images here……inversions of the usual love lines…like it very much, and fireflies, love fireflies.

    like it–captured beautifully

‘my butterflies, ancient decrepit things’, sigh. so beautiful.

  • Paul

Haha yayayay perfect somersault and landing beautifully balanced again, the things is at the beginning there is a little uncertainty in the rhythm, touch ungainly in the runup but you got it together half way through with unexpected fragility and age of the butterflies and then landed it perfect again, which is just my way of going, wooohooooo, do it again with a double pike turning pirouette, this is the type of poem that makes me very happy because it is not attempting more than it claims for itself which means you are already good and you are going to be great,

haha. what an enthusiastic review, paul. you’re somersaulting.

i do feel like the second stanza is stronger than the first. i’ll have to play around with the first some more.
